Anti-bullying at S.U.N School
STOP! WALK, TALK
Preventing bullying
At Sulhamstead and Ufton Nervet Primary School, we prepare and encourage our children to be open if they feel they are being bulllied or if someone is saying or doing something to them that they don't like.
We empower our children to say 'Stop, I don't like that' and, if the unwanted behaviour continues, Walk away, and Talk to someone; a friend, playground buddy, a member of staff they trust or their parents or siblings.
Any case of bullying will be addressed on an individual basis and support will be given to all involved as deemed necessary.
Children and parents must be confident that any form of bullying in school will not be tolerated and will be dealt with as appropriate. However, we recognise that bullying may take place occasionally. As part of our Behaviour Policy we wish to encourage both parents and children to feel able to discuss any problems with staff. It is important that we stress our openness and willingness to listen to any concerns.
There are many definitions of bullying. Our definition is as follows:
An individual/group who persistently cause distress to another child/children by either verbal, non-verbal or physical means.
Our pupils are encouraged to seek help and advice of their peers and adults to support them with any concerns around bullying. Pupils are encouraged to care for the well-being of themselves and their peers and to report any concerns as soon as they happen, to allow situations to be addressed; allowing the revisit, reflect and repair process to occur through positive discussion before the situation escalates.
We deliver anti-bullying learning through internalisation of the schools aims and objectives, values and ethos via:
• Modelling pro-social behaviour
• Supporting, promoting and living our school vision and values
• PHSE Lessons – discussion on topics of equal rights, relationships, reflection of own behaviour, impact of our actions on others (this is not an exhaustive list)
• Protective behaviours where deemed necessary
• The broader taught curriculum
• Themed collective worship
• The Stop, Walk, Talk method of empowering our young learners to say ‘no’ to bullying or unkindness
